Instructions for Searching by Tattoo Number (Complete or Partial)

The tattoo number is located on the animal's inner right thigh. A complete tattoo number consists of the letters "BC," followed by a two-digit year, a hyphen (-), and up to four additional digits.

1. Enter the letters "BC" followed by the appropriate two-digit year (BC00, BC01, BC02,BC03, BC04, BC05).

2. Enter a hyphen (-).

3. Enter the remainder of the number(s). Do not add spaces between any characters and numbers. Do not add any zeros. A complete, correctly entered tattoo number is BC00-1104, not BC001104.

For a partial tattoo number, enter as many of the numbers as possible. The more numbers you can distinguish, the smaller number of owner records you will have to review.

4. Click on the "Execute Search" button.

For a partial tattoo number, the database will display all the possible records with the number you provided. Scroll through the records until the description of the animal (breed, sex, color, etc.) match the animal you have. You can also eliminate some records by the distance between where you found the lost pet and an owner's address. Most lost dogs will not travel more than a few miles from its home. Small dogs and cats will travel blocks instead of miles from their homes.
